Skills

Formerly known as “Non-Weapon Proficiencies” Skills are the non-combat abilities that a character has. Weapon Proficiencies can be traded for Skills at a rate of 1 per 1. Skills cannot be traded for Weapon Proficiencies.

A character may use a skill slot to purchase a new language. Languages do not require skill checks. Literacy in the language however, does, and must be purchased separately for each language.

Skills that are italicized require a specialization, for example Riding, Land-Based (Horse).

Basic Skills can be used by anyone, whether skill points have been spent in them or not. Advanced skills cannot be attempted unless skill points have been spent. Skills that have no points spent in them are attempted at an additional -5. Each skill point spent in a skill raises the skill level by +5.
